Guyana Advances, will play Guadeloupe to spot in Gold Cup

Guyana moves within one game of qualification for this year’s edition of the Gold Cup after defeating Grenada 5-3 on penalties after the game was played to a 1-1 draw inside the DRV PNK Stadium.
Both teams enjoyed great possession of the ball throughout the match, though Guyana, in my estimation, enjoyed most of it.
Neil Danns could have scored Guyana’s first goal on the night but he was denied from the penalty spot by Grenada’s goalkeeper Reice Charles-Cook.
Guyana did not let up its pressure on this Grenada side and shortly thereafter, in the 22nd minute found a wonder-strike through its wonderkid Omari, who struck the ball brilliantly from outside of the 18-yard box.
Grenada had a much better second half, and would fine their equalizer in the 60th minute through a striker from Kairo Mitchell, after a fantastic run by Jacob Berkeley Agyepong.
None of the teams found another goal thereafter, and the match was headed to penalty kicks.
Guyana got a much-needed save from Kai Makenzie-Lyle in the fourth round of the pnalty kicks, after he reached back and stop Agyepong’s kick.
Daniel Wilson then converted Guyana’s final kick and ensure the win. Guyana will now play Guadeloupe on Tuesday for the final Spot in group D of the Gold Cup.
