Five years after the gruesome murder of a farmer, his teen son and brother-in-law, a 20-year-old man has confessed.

The trio, 37-year-old rice farmer Pawan Chandradeo; his 15-year-old son, Jaikarran Chandradeo as well as his brother-in-law Naresh Rooplall, 33 were murdered between July 20 and 21, 2016 at Mibicuri Creek, Black Bush Polder, Region Six (East Berbice Corentyne).

Twenty-year-old Jairam Chaitram on Monday pleaded guilty to three counts of murder when he appeared before Justice Sandil Kissoon at the High Court in Berbice. He had initially denied the charges.

Chaitram will be sentenced on February 10, 2022.

Also charged with the murders are Chaitram’s father, Carlton Chaitram, also known as ‘Lyma’, 40; Tameshwar Jagmohan, also known as ‘Guana’, 21, and 30-year-old Rakesh Karamchand, called ‘Go-To-Front’- all of Berbice. The trio has pleaded not guilty to the charges and their trial is in progress before Justice Kissoon.

The bodies of the two men and the teen boy, were discovered bearing gunshot wounds. Police had said that Chandradeo and his son were shot to their heads while Rooplall was shot to his neck.
