UPDATE: Businessman’s trigger-happy security enters settlement with truck driver

After having shots fired at a truck while he was still inside, 41-year-old truck driver Samora Haddaway has agreed to a settlement with the men involved in the incident and has dropped all charges against the men whom he made an official police report on Tuesday night.

Samora Haddaway entered the settlement agreement with Vijay Chanderbali of Better Hope, East Coast Demerara, Steven Ramdass of Section ‘B’ Great Diamond East Bank Demerara, Roshan Felix of Willow Housing Scheme West Bank Demerara, and Mahash Budhoo of Second Street Cummings Lodge East Coast Demerara.

The Settlement Agreement between Haddaway and the security guards
In an interview with BIG Smith News Watch on Wednesday afternoon, Haddaway recalled that on Tuesday night at approximately 23:00rs at the junction of Garnett and Middleton Streets, he parked a truck he was driving at the time. He said he arrived at the location to remove a container that was discharging and as the men were not finished, he parked across the road to avoid causing a traffic buildup.
According to him, he observed men with guns removing the battery cover and they eventually made their way to his driver’s side door demanding that he come out of the truck. Given their aggression, Headway said he attempted to drive off to safety, and shots were fired at the truck, puncturing the wheel in the process.
Earlier this afternoon, this publication made several attempts to contact Haddaway for a comment on the matter but those efforts were futile.
Despite the seriousness of the matter and the fact that guns were used, the Guyana Police Force has remained mum on this matter. This publication has been unable to reach Commander Simon McBean for a comment and the Guyana Police Force Corporate Communications Unite has refused to issue a word or line on this incident despite repeated requests.
What we do know is that on Tuesday night when the security guards were arrested, three firearms registered to a businessman whose only name was given as ‘Avinash’ were seized.
It should be noted that even though Haddaway has decided to enter a settlement agreement with the security, the Guyana Police Force still has a lawful duty to investigate the issue of the discharging of loaded firearms by the security guards.
