October 25, 2025 – Police in Regional Division #2, in collaboration with the Guyana Fire Service, are investigating an early morning fire that occurred at the Suddie Public Hospital around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday.

According to a police report, the blaze began under a shed near the hospital’s boardroom. Security personnel on site managed to contain the fire before it was fully extinguished by firefighters.

Two wheelchairs and packaging materials, estimated at $120,000, were destroyed. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and hospital operations continued without disruption.

Police ranks from the Suddie Police Station processed the scene, and one person is currently in custody assisting with the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing.
