Labourer fined and jailed for possession of illegal firearm, ammo

A 45-year-old labourer from Bounty Hall, Essequibo Coast, has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to firearm and ammunition-related offences at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
Ramkaran Ramnauth appeared before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir on Thursday, May 28, 2026, where he was charged with possession of a firearm without a licence and possession of ammunition without a licence, contrary to Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05.
Ramnauth pleaded guilty to both charges.
He was sentenced to 24 months’ imprisonment on each count and fined $50,000 for each offence. The sentences will run concurrently.
