Minister Benn loses his tongue as businessman’s guns seized

Minister of Home Affairs Robeson Benn has declined to offer any comment about the shooting incident on Tuesday which involved the security detail of a wealthy city businessman whose guns were seized as a result of the incident.
Approached for comment at the Guyana National Stadium Thursday evening, the minister who is usually very vocal on matters involving the police and ongoing investigations refused to entertain questions when he was approached.
Below is a transcript of how the encounter between our journalist and the Minister of Home went.
JOURNALIST: Minister good evening I would like to know… (minister interrupts)
MINISTER BENN: No comment
JOURNALIST: But you don’t know what I am asking you about
MINISTER BENN: But I am not commenting
JOURNALIST: This has to do with the shooting incident on Tuesday (minister interrupts)
MINISTER BENN: Ask the Commissioner of Police
The minister’s silence on this matter is a first of its kind when compared to how he has inserted himself as subject minister to pronounce and even order action when weapons in the hands of security guards were improperly used.
The Minister ordered the seizure of businessman Davanand Singh guns back in 2022 after he was seen on camera battering his daughter.
In March of this year, Minister Benn again inserted himself as subject minister to pronounce and order the seizure of weapons from a security company after a guard working there used one of the weapons to shoot his ex-girlfriend’s sister dead.
The truck driver who shots were fired at on Tuesday has since entered a settlement with the security guards involved in the incident. The guns used are said to be registered to a businessman whose only name was given as ‘Avinash’
