Police Corporal Kevin Narine died this morning while receiving medical attention at the Diamond Hospital for injuries he sustained in an accident at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara Sunday morning. A female who was also in the vehicle at the time is said to be in a serious condition.

BIG Smith News Watch learnt that the policeman died shortly after he was taken to the institution by his colleagues who showed up at the accident scene.

We were told that after the crash, the policeman was pinned in the vehicle and it took the aid of a truck to pull the vehicle apart to free him.

At the time, Corporal Narine had a force-issued weapon in his possession and we were told that the weapon was reportedly handed to someone who was on the accident scene. The police are investigating that bit of information.

On Sunday morning, the vehicle lost control and slammed into a utility pole after the Narine who was driving it, attempted to overtake a convoy which was being escorted by a marked police vehicle.

At the time, the policeman was not apart of the convoy and it is unclear if he was at the time of the crash, on any special duties or assignment.

The police are continuing their investigations.
