Minister of Agriculture Zulfikar Mustapha visited Region Two at the RPA Bond in Anna Regina to meet with farmers, earlier today.

Rice farmers attended the meeting to raise concerns about losses due to persistent rainfall and the need for financial assistance to cushion external factors faced in the sector.

The Minister told farmers that the government will work with farmers through the GRDB to offer assistance to farmers who were affected.

He assured them that representatives from the GRDB will soon meet with millers to discuss paddy prices for the current crop, while noting that the government cannot set paddy prices.

Minister Mustapha reminded farmers that the PPP government has always engaged millers on better prices for paddy for farmers.

He also disclosed that funds were allocated to do dam upgrades to assist with transporting their crops for the fields.
