The Guyana Police Force has dispatched a party of policemen to investigate an apparent standoff between two sides in a mining area within Region 10 who on a video which has surfaced, could be seen drawing their guns on each other.

Based on a video that has come to the attention of this publication, there seems to be a dispute between two sides which resulted in heated exchanges, profanity, threats, profanity and the pulling and cranking of guns which were pointed to each other. It is unclear at this point when the confrontation between the two sides took place but based on police sources, no such incident was reported prior.

CAUTION: Vido is laced with profanity, not suitable for audiences

Contacted this morning, Divisional Commander of Region 10 Superintendent Winter confirmed that a team has been sent to the location. He clarified that the police who are not authorized to intervene in land matters will be focusing on the issues of threats and the brandishing of the weapons.

This publication was told that the dispute might have stemmed over occupancy of a mining claim which was not assigned to anyone by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission.

An official at the Ministry indicated to BIG Smith News Watch that the ministry is aware that some time ago there was some conflict regarding a plot of land which was not allocated to anyone but which was being claimed by some miners.

Up to the time of this publication, no one from the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission was dispatched to the area.
