
Police have made a breakthrough in the investigation into the fatal shooting of Mocha businesswoman Desiree Hyman, with the arrest of a key suspect.
The 52-year-old Hyman was shot and killed on June 18, 2025, at First Street, Mocha, in what investigators believe was a targeted attack.
According to a police statement, on Saturday, July 20, between 18:00 and 19:30 hrs, an intelligence-led operation by police led to the arrest of Weedon Oudkerk, a 42-year-old taxi driver from Paradise, East Coast Demerara.
According to the Guyana Police Force, detectives acting on information went to Dennis Street, Sophia, where they located Oudkerk. Upon making contact, officers informed him that he was wanted in connection with Hymanโs murder.
He was cautioned, denied any involvement, and was subsequently arrested and taken to the Providence Police Station for further questioning.
The investigation remains ongoing. Police have not ruled out additional arrests as they continue to piece together the events surrounding Hymanโs killing.
