Police conducted a raid on Monday in front of the Stabroek Market where they saw a group of men standing at the entrance of the market gate.

Ranks became suspicious of one of the men who was seen with a bulky black plastic and upon seeing the police he pushed the black plastic bag through the grill of the gate and the bag fell on a wire.

He was taken into custody as the police attempted to retrieve the bag.

While another male known to the police held on to the said bag, and as a result of pulling, the bag tore open and a quantity of small transparent zip-lock plastic bags containing leaves, seeds and stems fell out onto the ground. The man then made good his escape with the plastic bag containing the remaining contents.

Ten transparent zip-lock plastic bags containing the suspected cannabis were recovered by the police and the first male was told of the allegation, cautioned and arrested.

The suspected cannabis was weighed and it amounted to 35.9 grams. The suspect is presently in custody pending charges.
