February 18 2026
A 49-year-old man from the Central Rupununi has been charged with murder in connection with the killing of a Wichabai ranch worker and has been remanded to prison.
Ken Faria, a Community Relations Officer of Culvert City, Central Rupununi, Region Nine, was charged with the offence of murder, in relation to the death of Leon Baird, also known as “Rasta.”
The charge stems from the alleged killing of Baird, 38, which is said to have occurred between January 23 and January 25, 2026, at Wichabai.
Faria appeared on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Faith McGusty.
The murder charge was read to him, and he was not required to plead. He was subsequently remanded to prison.
The matter has been adjourned to March 31, 2026.
Previous reports stated that Baird, who was employed at the Wichabai Ranch, is believed to have been killed on January 23, allegedly by cattle rustlers who had reportedly stolen two of his employer’s cows.
His badly burnt remains were discovered three days later inside a company vehicle that had been set ablaze.
