More drivers fined as traffic camera cases reach court

February 18, 2026
The Guyana Police Force (GPF) says hundreds of dangerous driving incidents detected by the Safe Road Intelligent System (SRIS) are progressing through the courts, as evidence-based enforcement continues to expand nationwide.
According to the police, footage captured by SRIS cameras has been used to identify and prosecute motorists whose driving endangered the public, other road users, or property. Each incident is individually reviewed by trained officers, with evidence analysed, compiled and formally presented before a magistrate.
Dangerous driving offences are not ticketable and must be adjudicated in court. To date, 115 cases have already been heard, resulting in fines and, in some instances, the suspension of drivers’ licences. Remaining matters are at various stages of review and prosecution.
The GPF noted that it is strengthening its prosecutorial capacity to accelerate the preparation and advancement of SRIS-related cases. When motorists are located, officers use electronic tablets to present recorded footage of the alleged infraction during verification and charge preparation ahead of court proceedings.
Recently, several motorists appeared before the Sparendaam and Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on dangerous driving charges. Among them:
Kwande Pellew, driver of motor vehicle BXX 6175, fined $50,000.
Wahid Prasad, driver of motor vehicle BAB 3610, fined $40,000.
Narendra Persaud, driver of motor vehicle BZZ 9177, fined $50,000.
Brandt Ally, driver of motor vehicle BAJ 9917, fined $25,000.
Kimeon Brandford-Williams, driver of motor vehicle BAG 8728, fined $40,000.
The police reiterated that dangerous driving poses serious risks and will be met with firm enforcement. Motorists are urged to obey traffic laws, maintain lane discipline and understand that violations detected through SRIS will be pursued through the judicial process.
The SRIS initiative forms part of a broader national effort led by the Government of Guyana and the National Data Management Authority to modernise traffic management using data-driven enforcement aimed at reducing collisions and saving lives.
