Timehri man jailed for taking narcotics into prison

A 24-year-old labourer has been sentenced to prison after admitting to introducing narcotics into a correctional facility.

 

Timothy Mc Garrell of the Timehri Squatting Area, East Bank Demerara, was charged with Introducing Narcotics into Prison.

 

The offence was committed on February 17, 2026, at the Lusignan Prison.

 

Mc Garrell appeared on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, before Senior Magistrate Sunil Scarce at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded guilty.

 

The court sentenced Mc Garrell to three years’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of $30,000.
