President Ali, US Secretary of State Discuss Venezuela, Regional Security

President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Tuesday held discussions with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio on recent developments in Venezuela and other matters affecting the Western Hemisphere.
According to a statement from the social media page of President Irfaan Ali, the conversation focused on shared priorities including regional security, democracy, and stability. President Ali acknowledged the leadership of US President Donald Trump and Secretary Rubio in reinforcing commitments to freedom, democratic governance, and security across the region.
During the engagement, President Ali reaffirmed Guyana’s commitment to close cooperation with the United States, describing it as a key strategic and security partner. He underscored Guyana’s support for international efforts to combat transnational crime, including drug and gold smuggling and narco-terrorism, while reiterating the country’s respect for the rule of law, free and fair elections, and democratic norms.
The President also welcomed the United States’ continued support and partnership with Guyana, particularly in the defence of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Both leaders agreed to maintain ongoing engagement on the issues discussed, as well as other areas of mutual interest.
