Murder-Conspiracy Case Against Businessman, Alleged Hitman Dropped

The conspiracy-to-murder case against businessman Mark Grimmond and alleged hitman Chatterpaul Singh fell apart after virtual complainant Dwayne Grant told the court he no longer wished to pursue the matter.

Following this, the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) discontinued the matter.

Reliable sources told this publication that the parties had reached a financial settlement.

Grimmond and Singh had previously pleaded not guilty before Acting Chief Justice Navindra Singh in the High Court in Demerara, where the charges were read to them.

A jury was thereafter empanelled.

The two men had been jointly charged with conspiring with persons known and unknown to murder Grant between April 1, 2018, and June 7, 2019, in Georgetown.

Both were committed to stand trial in December 2019, after a preliminary inquiry found sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to the High Court.

Prior to the trial proceedings, both Grimmond and Singh were released on $500,000 bail, pending the hearing and determination of their trial.
