Man Arrested for Animal Cruelty in La Grange

Police have arrested a 64-year-old resident of Independence Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara, in connection with a case of animal cruelty that was captured on video and widely shared on social media.
The arrest was made around 17:00 hours on Monday, November 4, 2025.
The viral video showed a motor car, bearing registration number PJJ 8712, being driven along the La Grange Public Road while a donkey was tethered and forced to walk behind the moving vehicle.
The animal, described as a light brown and cream unbranded male donkey, has been taken into custody at the La Grange Police Station for safekeeping as investigations continue.
The Guyana Police Force has since denounced all forms of animal cruelty and reaffirmed its commitment to enforcing the nation’s animal protection laws.
