Young businessman killed in early morning crash

The wrecked vehicle after the crash

TWENTY Eight Year old Vijai Sankar of 24 Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo, a businessman, died on the spot early Thursday morning when the Range Rover he was driving PWW 9100 collided with a light pole at Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara at approximately 03:15hrs.

Big Smith Watch was informed that Sankar who was speeding at the time of the crash, had earlier ignored a signal by police ranks at Lenora who were conducting a roadblock.

Contacted this afternoon for a comment on the passing of his son, the man’s father said that he could speak at the moment as he was in a meeting.

Police sources told BIG Smith News Watch that after colliding with the light pole, the vehicle careened into a fence resulting in several lacerations to Sankar’s body. He was taken from the vehicle by member of the Guyana Fire Service who are stationed a few meters away and who responded promptly.

He was then taken to the Lenora Cottage Hospital where he examined by a doctor who pronounced him dead on arrival.

There was extensive damage done to the vehicle as a result of the collision. The body is presently at a morgue awaiting a postmortem examination.
