Fiery Christmas leave Ogle Squatters homeless

While thousands are celebrating and enjoying lavish Christmas meals and expensive gifts, several families from a squatting area have no roof over their heads and nowhere to prepare a dinner for this evening.
This afternoon, a fire of so far unknown origin which started at a shack along a dam at Ogle, East Coast Demerara saw the destruction of three other shacks, rendering a number of squatters homeless. The fire also threatened a three storied building which is located next to the squatting area.
BIG Smith News Watch has been told that those living in the shacks have been doing so for several years now. The area first started seeing the erection of shacks which were used by fisher folks to store their items which is used in the execution of their trade.
However after some time, the area started attracting persons who moved to the area and erected shacks which they have been calling home.
The fire service managed to save the three storied building from going up in flames. The matter is under investigation.
