Minister Jacobs addresses athletes at opening of CARIFTA Training Camp

In a landmark event for athletics in Guyana, Minister within the Ministry of Culture Youth and Sports, Steven Jacobs officially opened the Athletics Association of Guyana (AAG) 2026 CARIFTA Training Camp at the National Racquet Centre on Saturday morning.
The initiative marks a significant milestone for the AAG as it is the first training camp of its kind, aimed at preparing young athletes for the upcoming CARIFTA Games.
President of the AAG, Amanda Hermonstine expressed her excitement about the camp and its potential to elevate the sport in Guyana. “This training camp represents a new chapter for the AAG and our athletes,” Hermonstine stated. “It’s an opportunity for our young talents to develop their skills, gain invaluable experience, and prepare for the prestigious CARIFTA Games.”
Minister Jacobs, in his address, emphasized the government’s commitment to nurturing sports and youth development in Guyana. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in providing athletes with the resources and training necessary to excel on regional and international stages. “Today marks a pivotal moment for our young athletes. This camp is not just about training; it’s about building a future where Guyana is recognized for its athletic prowess,” Jacobs said.
