MoE Launches Two-Day TVET Fair to Showcase Student Skills

June 17 2025
As part of its ongoing efforts to expand access to technical and vocational education across Guyana, the Ministry of Education on Tuesday launched a two-day Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Fair and Exposition at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre in Liliendaal.
Minister of Education Priya Manickchand in her remarks underscored that this focus on technical training is essential to preparing students for participation in Guyana’s rapidly evolving economy, particularly in sectors driven by the oil and gas industry.

The event is designed to highlight the skills of students from across the country, with practical demonstrations in areas such as block making, painting, carpentry, welding, and agri-processing. It forms part of a broader initiative to diversify education pathways and equip students with competencies aligned with emerging job market demands.
According to the Minister Manickchand, the Ministry’s strategic introduction of technical subjects through the Caribbean Vocational Qualification (CVQ) framework has enabled students to pursue career-oriented training beyond traditional academic streams. Since 2020, the number of schools offering CVQ subjects has significantly increased—from just nine schools offering four subjects, to 74 schools now delivering 24 CVQ disciplines.
In addition to expanding the CVQ programme, Practical Instruction Centres (PICs) have been established in nine of the country’s ten administrative regions, with plans underway to commission another in Region Nine.
She stated that these centres provide the necessary infrastructure and resources to deliver hands-on training in technical subjects.
The TVET Fair serves both as a celebration of student achievement and as a public demonstration of the country’s investment in a skilled and competitive workforce.
