Woman granted bail for shooting teen in Agricola

A 26-year-old supermarket cashier, Shyon Freeman of Brutus Street, Agricola, Greater Georgetown, appeared on Friday before Acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

She was granted bail in the sum of $250,000.

Freeman pleaded not guilty to a charge alleging that on May 18, 2025, she discharged a loaded firearm with intent to cause actual bodily harm to 16-year-old De’Angelo Nick.

The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the virtual complainant and key witnesses, including the child’s mother, could be placed at risk, noting that she was allegedly shot at during the incident.

During the hearing, the magistrate questioned whether Freeman had made threats, interfered with witnesses, or committed any acts of violence while on previous station bail.

The prosecution was unable to point to any incidents, and the magistrate ruled that bail was appropriate.

Freeman was ordered to report to the Agricola Police Outpost on the last Wednesday of every month, and the matter was adjourned to February 20, 2026.

Relatives of the injured teen told reporters that on the night of the incident, De’Angelo was asleep inside his home when someone fired several rounds through his bedroom window, striking him in the leg.

Shots were also reportedly fired at another one of his family members’ residences.

They said the shooter fled immediately afterward, but the teen’s mother claimed she saw who the female shooter was and identified Freeman as the shooter.

It was also alleged that upon seeing Freeman, the teen’s mother was also shot at, but managed to escape.

Family members expressed concern over the continued unrest in the area, noting that the shooting occurred amid a wider pattern of violent incidents in the community.

Freeman  has no prior convictions, according to her attorney.

Reports, however, indicate that in 2017 she was remanded to prison after being accused of knowingly harbouring Marlon Jeffrey, who was sought by police for multiple offences, including escaping from lawful custody.
