Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, on Saturday led the distribution of a $300-per-bag subsidy to rice farmers along the Corentyne Coast, reaffirming the Government’s commitment to timely and direct support for the rice sector.

The initiative is expected to benefit a total of 1,452 rice farmers and represents an overall government investment of approximately $490 million.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Minister Mustapha said the administration has consistently intervened to assist farmers whenever challenges arise, underscoring that agriculture remains a key national priority.

He noted that continued support for rice farmers is critical to sustaining production, safeguarding livelihoods, and strengthening food security across the country.
