– to Strengthen Agricultural Collaboration

Zulfikar Mustapha, Minister of Agriculture, recently met with a delegation from the Embassy of the United States of America and the United States Department of Agriculture.

The U.S. delegation was led by Ms. Adrienne Galanek, Deputy Chief of Mission, and included Ms. Candice Bruce, Director of USDA Foreign Agricultural Service, and Mr. Omar Gonzalez, International Trade Specialist at USDA.

During the meeting, Minister Mustapha emphasized the importance of a robust partnership and collaboration between Guyana and the USA in agriculture.

He highlighted the significant investments and interventions the Guyanese government has made in the sector. The Minister provided updates on various initiatives, including youth development programs, shade-house agriculture, hydroponics, the fresh rose project, shrimp and aquaculture development, and increased involvement of women in agriculture.

Ms. Galanek and Ms. Bruce expressed a strong commitment to working together, particularly in advancing women’s development and technology transfer. They acknowledged the longstanding relationship between Guyana and the USA in the agricultural sector and pledged to continue strengthening this partnership.

The meeting underscored the mutual benefits of collaboration and the shared goal of advancing agricultural development in both countries.
