Sophia Woman Arrested Following Husband’s Murder

December 27 2024 – Authorities are probing the alleged murder of 36-year-old Ivor Thornhill, a labourer from ‘E’ Field Sophia, who succumbed to injuries on Thursday, December 26, 2024. Thornhill reportedly sustained fatal wounds during an altercation on Christmas night.
According to police reports, Thornhill had lived with his common-law wife, 38-year-old sales representative Leslyn Norton, for the past four years.
Norton disclosed that their relationship was marred by frequent accusations of infidelity and physical abuse by Thornhill.
On Christmas morning, Norton stated that she and Thornhill argued at the Kitty Market, where he accused her of being unfaithful.
She reportedly left him at the market and returned home. Later that evening, around 7:00 PM, she visited the Pink Shop in ‘E’ Field Sophia, where she encountered Thornhill consuming alcohol.
Norton alleged that Thornhill confronted her at the shop, continuing his accusations and threatening her life. During the argument, he reportedly threw a Lucozade bottle at her.
Norton claimed she left the shop and began walking home on ‘E’ Field Dam but noticed Thornhill following her and hiding in nearby bushes.
She stated that she informed two unidentified men on the dam of her fear. The men allegedly assured her they would handle Thornhill, after which she saw them engaging in a physical altercation with him. Norton said she fled home but later returned to find Thornhill bloodied and being placed into an ambulance.
A witness, recounted hearing his dogs barking around 7:40 PM on Christmas night. Upon investigation, he noticed an unidentified man on a bicycle and later heard cries for help. He then discovered Thornhill lying on the dam, covered in blood.
The witness raised an alarm and reported seeing Norton nearby. He claimed she remarked, “Is good fa he, he should f***ing dead.” The ambulance was called and transported Thornhill to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
Detectives processed the scene and recovered a knife near Thornhillβs body, which bore multiple wounds to the face, stomach, and ear. Norton was arrested and remains in custody as police continue their investigation.
Authorities are searching for the two unidentified men allegedly involved in the altercation. The body is currently at the GPHC mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
