VP Describes Commencement of PAL Series as “Sign of Prosperity”

June 6 2025
The Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) has commenced the registration of vehicles under the new PAL series, just three months after launching the PAK series—signaling a notable surge in vehicle imports and broader economic activity across the country.
Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, at his weekly press conference yesterday has indicated that the rapid growth in the number of vehicles on the road will place additional demands on Guyana’s existing transportation infrastructure. In light of this, the government remains focused on expanding and modernizing the country’s roadways and public transport systems to meet current and future needs.
Each vehicle registration series spans 9,999 units, indicating that in the period between February and early June 2025, the GRA processed nearly 10,000 new vehicle registrations. This milestone points to a rise in consumer confidence and asset acquisition among Guyanese citizens, including many from middle- and lower-income brackets.
The increase in vehicle ownership comes amid ongoing national debates regarding the allocation of public funds, especially revenues from the oil and gas sector. While critics have pushed for direct cash transfers to citizens, government officials continue to emphasize the importance of balanced investment in infrastructure and essential services.
The swift transition from PAK to PAL is being viewed as a barometer of prosperity and a testament to the increasing economic participation of ordinary Guyanese. As vehicle imports continue to climb, infrastructure planning and development are expected to remain at the forefront of the national agenda.
