October 1, 2024 – The Ministry of Agriculture officially launched Agriculture Month 2024 today with an Interfaith Service held at its Regent Street office.

The event marked the beginning of a month-long celebration focused on advancing the country’s agricultural sector. This year’s theme is “Transforming Tomorrow: Championing Food Security through Innovation and Technology.”

Agriculture Minister Zulfikar Mustapha, in his remarks, emphasized the critical role that innovation and technology play in enhancing Guyana’s agri-food systems. He also highlighted the spiritual significance of agriculture, urging reflection on the diverse faiths that contribute to the nation’s agricultural growth. “Amidst the positive transformation taking place in Guyana’s agriculture sector, we must consider the insights offered by our country’s rich spiritual traditions,” Minister Mustapha said.

The Minister also expressed his gratitude to the Ministry’s staff for their tireless efforts in achieving the government’s agricultural policies and vision.

Director General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Madanlall Ramraj, echoed similar sentiments, stating, “In Guyana, agriculture is more than just an industry; it is a calling that nourishes both body and soul.” He also commended the resilience and innovation of the nation’s farmers, agri-entrepreneurs, and communities.

Agriculture Month 2024 will include a series of events aimed at highlighting the advancements and innovations driving Guyana’s agricultural sector, with a focus on food security and sustainability.
