
Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, along with his technical team, met with rice farmers and other stakeholders at the Albion Community Centre in Berbice yesterday.
The meeting focused on the escalating issue of paddy bugs affecting the region’s rice crops.
During the session, Minister Mustapha attentively listened to the farmers’ concerns regarding the surge in paddy bugs.
In response, he outlined a series of immediate actions and interventions to tackle the problem, beginning with the Jacto spraying of dams and meres. This operation, coordinated by the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB), will commence tomorrow.
Minister Mustapha emphasized that this intervention will complement the GRDB’s general paddy bug control program.
He assured farmers that the Ministry is committed to addressing their concerns and supporting the agricultural community in their efforts to protect and enhance crop yields.
