AGRI Min Leads Technical Team, IICA Delegation on Site Visit for New Situation Room

December 2 2025
Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, on Tuesday led a team of senior technical officers along with a delegation from the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) during a site visit to assess ongoing preparations for the establishment of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Situation Room.
The visit represents a major step in advancing the development of the high-tech facility, which is being executed in collaboration with IICA to strengthen real-time monitoring, data analysis, and rapid response capabilities across Guyana’s agriculture sector.
The initiative supports President Dr. Irfaan Ali’s call for the sector to embrace modern technology, data-driven decision-making, and digital infrastructure as key components of Guyana’s agricultural transformation. President Ali has consistently underscored that technology—from smart monitoring systems to predictive analytics—must be embedded at every level of agriculture to improve efficiency, resilience, and competitiveness.
When completed, the Situation Room will operate as a centralized hub for gathering and analyzing national data on weather patterns, crop performance, flood risks, pests and diseases, and other critical variables, enabling more proactive and coordinated interventions.
Tuesday’s visit reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fast-tracking the project and ensuring that the supporting infrastructure, equipment, and technical systems adhere to international standards.
Minister Mustapha highlighted that the partnership with IICA continues to be instrumental in Guyana’s transition to a smarter, technology-enabled agriculture sector.
He added that the Situation Room will greatly enhance the Ministry’s capacity to safeguard production and support farmers nationwide.
