AGRI MIN Commissions $14.3M Dehydrating Facility

On Thursday, Agriculture Minister Hon. Zulfikar Mustapha officially commissioned the Hope Dehydrating Facility at Hope Estate, a $14.3 million investment aimed at advancing agro-processing in the region.
The facility is expected to benefit over 200 individuals, including farmers, agro-processors, women, youth, and other stakeholders, by enhancing their business development skills and providing opportunities for additional income.
During his feature address, Minister Mustapha emphasized the importance of the new facility in Guyana’s national strategy to boost agro-processing capabilities.
He noted that the facility represents a significant step forward for the country’s agricultural sector, which is increasingly focused on food security, farmer empowerment, and creating a more resilient agricultural landscape.
“This facility marks a significant step forward in our national strategy to enhance agro-processing capabilities, which are critical to the future of agriculture in Guyana,” Minister Mustapha stated. He further highlighted that the government’s commitment goes beyond processing food, aiming to empower the nation’s farmers and strengthen the agricultural sector as a whole.
The Hope Dehydrating Facility is equipped with two state-of-the-art electric dehydrators, each containing 80 trays designed for the efficient and uniform drying of various agricultural products, including fruits, vegetables, and ground provisions.
This technology will enable local farmers and processors to add value to their produce, opening up new markets and opportunities for growth.
The commissioning of this facility underscores the government’s dedication to fostering innovation and development within the agricultural sector, paving the way for a more sustainable and prosperous future for Guyana’s farmers and agro-processors.
