Gov’t Scraps 35% Tint Waiver, Now Approves 20 Percent

Minister of Home Affairs Oneidge Walrond, in an exclusive interview with BIG Smith News Watch, announced new adjustments to the regulations governing vehicle window tinting, along with a three-month grace period for motorists to comply.
Under the revised guidelines, the following tint levels will be permitted:
Rear windshield: 20 percent
Rear passenger side windows: 20 percent
Driver’s side window: 25 percent
Front windshield: No tint permitted, except for a six-inch visor at the top
The minister emphasized that no mirrored or selective tinting will be allowed, and no visor will be permitted at the bottom of the windshield.
Minister Walrond explained that the previously permitted 65 percent tint level saw little compliance due to what she described as a lawless system. She noted that the government listened to public concerns and has now made tinting permissible for all motorists under clear, enforceable rules.
Special provisions will apply to certain categories of vehicles. An exemption regime will be in place for specific cases, including health-related conditions, government vehicles, and high-risk or specialized vehicles that transport large sums of cash.
To support enforcement, the minister said police ranks will be equipped with certified tint meters to accurately measure compliance. Additionally, digital records will be introduced, allowing police to access all relevant information — including tint waivers — through a mobile application.
The new measures are aimed at improving road safety while ensuring fairness and consistency in enforcement.
