— Joint effort underway to recapture him

The Guyana Police Force has confirmed that Suraj Singh has escaped from prison.

Singh was, at the time, a part of a five man team assigned to gang duty and cleaning lands on the Glasgow Public Road, Berbice.

31-year-old Singh who resided at Corentyne Berbice, was convicted of Possession of Narcotics for Trafficking on 2023/5/4 and sentenced to serve 41 months in prison.

At approximately 11:00 hrs today, Singh said he wanted to use the bathroom and left the group heading towards a clump of bushes nearby, when he suddenly scaled the northern fence and began to run.

An alarm was raised, and a chase began, but Singh made good his escape by heading further north in the bushes.

Information was filtered, and a joint operation was launched in an effort to recapture the convicted prisoner.
