63-Y-O Man Fined $30,000 for Refusing Breathalyzer Test

May 7, 2025 – John Bernard Boodhanlall, a 63-year-old driver from Onderneeming, Essequibo Coast, was fined $30,000 after pleading guilty to refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breathalyzer test.
The incident led to Boodhanlall being charged under the relevant traffic laws, and he appeared before the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on Friday, May 2, 2025.
Upon entering a guilty plea, the court imposed the fine as penalty for the offence.
Refusing to take a breathalyzer test is considered a serious traffic violation, as it hinders law enforcement’s efforts to ensure road safety by detecting and deterring impaired driving.
Authorities continue to urge drivers to comply with all legal requests during traffic stops, particularly in matters related to alcohol consumption and public safety.
