November 5 2025
A 32-year-old carpenter and mason of Belvedere, Corentyne, was on Wednesday remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of 56-year-old labourer Imran Kadir, called “Shut Pon Shoulder.”
Emmanuel Ramsammy, also known as “Scotty” and “Joel,” of Lot 21 King Street, Belvedere, appeared before Magistrate Michelle Matthias at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court. The charge alleges that between November 1 and 2, 2025, Ramsammy murdered Kadir, who also resided at Lot D King Street, Belvedere.
Ramsammy, who was unrepresented by legal counsel, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge. Magistrate Matthias highlighted the gravity of the offence before remanding him to prison.
Prosecutor Sergeant Mark Edwards informed the court that the case file remains incomplete and requested a two-week adjournment to facilitate its completion.
The matter has been transferred to the Albion Magistrate’s Court, where Ramsammy is expected to make his next appearance on November 18, 2025.
According to police reports, Kadir and Ramsammy were reportedly consuming alcohol together when an argument ensued. The following morning, Kadir was discovered motionless at his home, prompting residents to alert law enforcement.
Investigations led to Ramsammy’s arrest and subsequent charge for murder.
