Stephen Sumner, a 39-year-old truck driver of Lot 12-13 Farm, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara, has been charged with three traffic offences stemming from an incident on September 7, 2025, at Helena Public Road, Mahaica.

The charges include failing to stop, failing to report an accident, and failing to render assistance to an injured person, all contrary to provisions under the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02. The offences were allegedly committed against Detective Corporal Orin McDonald.

Sumner was arrested on the same day by Corporal Lewis and later charged by Detective Corporal John, both stationed at Mahaica Police Station.

On September 10, 2025, he appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded not guilty to all three charges. Bail was granted in the sum of $5,000 for each offence, totaling $15,000.

The matter was adjourned to September 30, 2025, for report.
