MLG Sets New Mandate in Engagement with Regional Leaders

The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development today convened a high-level meeting with regional leaders, marking the first official engagement of Honourable Minister Priya Manickchand since assuming office.
Minister Manickchand was joined by Minister within the Ministry, Pauline Sukhai, Director General Honourable Anand Persaud, Permanent Secretary Miguel Choo Kang, and Deputy Permanent Secretary (Administration) Josh Kanhai.
The forum brought together Regional Executive Officers (REOs), Regional Education Officers (REdOs), Regional Health Officers (RHOs), and Regional Engineers from all ten administrative regions to align leadership on the Ministry’s new mandate. The discussions focused on boosting efficiency, accountability, and responsiveness in service delivery across Guyana.
Minister Manickchand emphasized the importance of ensuring that every household and community experiences the government’s development agenda in tangible ways. She highlighted the Ministry’s role in bridging gaps between local governance structures and national priorities, with a commitment to equitable benefits for citizens nationwide.
Key areas under review included health, education, infrastructure, and community development. By strengthening coordination between the central Ministry and regional administrations, officials aim to address pressing challenges and deliver more effective, people-centered governance.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparent leadership, sustainable growth, and improved service delivery, setting the tone for stronger regional partnerships and a more responsive local government system.
