A 24-year-old man is expected to be charged today in connection with the brutal killing of his mother at their Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara home last week.

The suspect, Geerdash Ramkisoon, was arrested following the death of his 55-year-old mother, Surujdai Kahriu.

Kahriu’s decapitated body was discovered inside the family residence on the night of May 28. The gruesome discovery was reportedly made by her other son, a member of the Guyana Police Force, who found her lying in a pool of blood and raised an alarm.

Sources familiar with the investigation said Ramkisoon allegedly told investigators that “something came over him” before the fatal attack.

Following the discovery, the suspect reportedly left the area, prompting a search operation. He was apprehended the following day and has since remained in custody.
