BREAKING: Deputy Commissioner Williams sent home

Deputy Commissioner of Police Paul Williams

Within a few hours of his return to his job after more than seven months of leave, Deputy Commissioner of Police Williams has received shifting orders.

BIG Smith News Watch has been told that Williams has been seconded with immediate effect to the Guyana Civil Defence Commission.

The move which has been in the pipeline weeks before Williams’ return to the job, was communicated to him by way of a letter this morning, BIG Smith News Watch has been told.

It was also indicated to this publication that Deputy Commissioner of Police Paul Williams also the subject of an investigation being conducted by the Criminal Investigation Department of the force.

Based on what we were told, an audit of the Force’s finances, records and operations found that monies which were earmarked for lectures at the Police Office Training Complex were allegedly signed off as being paid to a number of facilitators when there was no training done.

Several training sessions were scheduled for the early part of 2020 but after the elections and the prevailing Coronavirus pandemic, those training sessions were not held given the COVID-19 guidelines and the need to restrict gatherings.

Several persons who were listed as having conducted lectures and training sessions and were paid for the same, have reportedly denied or claimed ignorance  of being part of those training and reportedly did not collect any monies.

Paul Williams, Maxine Graham, Lyndon Alves and Nigel Hoppie were all promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police back in August 2018 by then President David Granger while Leslie James was named the Commissioner of Police.

With the exception of Williams and Hoppie who is now the acting Top Cop, all others from the ‘BIG Five’ as they were popularly referred to, have gone home and at the time of their leaving, did not have entirely pleasant exits from the Guyana Police Force.
