A passenger arriving by speedboat from Parika was arrested at the Bartica Stelling on Wednesday afternoon after police discovered over 800 grams of suspected cocaine hidden in a plastic bag.

The bust occurred around 4:55 p.m. when a team of police officers, led by a Detective Sergeant, intercepted the vessel as part of routine operations. One male passenger aroused suspicion due to his behavior and was approached by officers, who requested to conduct a search of his person and belongings.

During the search, police found a plastic bag in the man’s possession containing a pineapple. Hidden inside another plastic bag were 28 small plastic-wrapped packages filled with a rock-like substance suspected to be cocaine.

The man was immediately informed of the offence, cautioned, and taken into custody. At the Bartica Police Station, the suspected cocaine was weighed and found to total 875 grams.

During questioning, the suspect admitted to transporting the narcotics and claimed he was doing so on behalf of a friend who resides on Third Avenue, Bartica. Based on this information, police swiftly located and arrested the second individual.

Both men are currently in custody and assisting with the ongoing investigation.
