Minister Manickchand Commissions Three New Libraries in Reg Three

November 13, 2024 – In a major push to enhance educational resources across Guyana, Minister of Education Priya Manickchand officially opened three new libraries at Tuschen Primary School, Greenwich Park Primary School, and Parika Salem Primary School on the East Bank of Essequibo.
These facilities are part of the Ministry’s ongoing initiative to establish libraries in primary schools, ensuring students have access to diverse learning materials from an early age.
Minister Manickchand emphasized that the new libraries support the Ministry’s mission to strengthen education by creating environments that foster literacy, creativity, and critical thinking among young learners.
These facilities will serve as essential educational hubs in their communities, providing children with opportunities to explore books, develop a passion for reading, and enhance their knowledge beyond the classroom. By offering a wide range of resources, the libraries aim to encourage self-directed learning and academic curiosity, helping students build a strong educational foundation.
In addition to benefiting students, the new libraries will be valuable resources for teachers, aiding them in delivering dynamic and engaging lessons.
These openings are part of the Ministry of Education’s Libraries in Primary Schools Initiative, which focuses on expanding library access throughout the nation. By prioritizing literacy and access to knowledge from a young age, the initiative seeks to bridge educational disparities and equip future generations with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly complex world.
The libraries at Tuschen, Greenwich Park, and Parika Salem Primary Schools reflect the government’s broader commitment to improving educational infrastructure and ensuring equitable, high-quality education for all students, regardless of location.
As the initiative progresses, more schools nationwide will see similar upgrades, making libraries a central part of the educational experience in communities across Guyana.
