Rosignol Secondary Celebrates First Sixth Form Graduates

November 13, 2024 — Guyana’s education system marked a milestone as Rosignol Secondary School celebrated the graduation of its first sixth-form cohort.
The six students successfully completed the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examinations (CAPE) program, becoming the first from Region Five to do so.
Rosignol Secondary, designated as the country’s newest gazetted Sixth Form School in 2022, offers the same status as Guyana’s national schools, giving Region Five students the opportunity to pursue CAPE without leaving their community.
This advancement was initiated by Minister of Education Priya Manickchand, with the CAPE program officially introduced two years ago.
During the ceremony, Chief Education Officer Saddam Hussain praised the school’s progress, emphasizing the significance of providing Region Five students access to advanced academic opportunities within their own region.
The inaugural graduating class included five students—Arianne Mangal, Sophia Persaud, Darshenie Bharat, Jeneen Harris, and Romila Jankinath—who attained an Associate of Science degree in Natural Science. Another student, Donociah Peters, earned a Diploma in Natural Science.
The establishment of a CAPE program at Rosignol Secondary highlights the Ministry of Education’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality education nationwide.
By ensuring that students can achieve their academic ambitions within their local communities, the Ministry seeks to remove obstacles that previously necessitated traveling outside the region for advanced studies.
Minister Manickchand’s leadership in transforming Rosignol Secondary dates back to 2013 when she designated it an A-list school, backed by a $45 million investment to upgrade the school’s infrastructure to meet A-list standards.
This milestone reflects Guyana’s continued efforts to create a more inclusive and accessible education system, underscoring the Ministry’s dedication to investing in every student’s future.
