The Government of Guyana has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with U.S.-based Cerebras Systems to construct and operate a 100-megawatt artificial intelligence (AI) data center at Wales, West Bank Demerara. The initiative marks a major milestone in Guyana’s push to become a regional leader in digital technology and innovation.

The state-of-the-art facility will be powered by the natural gas pipeline linked to the Gas-to-Energy Plant, providing behind-the-meter energy for its operations. Equipped with Cerebras’ advanced CS-3 AI supercomputers, the data center will serve both local and international markets, positioning Guyana as a global destination for startups, researchers, and technology-driven enterprises seeking high-performance computing capacity.

The project will also focus on data sovereignty, cybersecurity, and human capital development, with Cerebras committing to train and upskill Guyanese professionals through specialized programs, research collaborations, and partnerships with international universities.

The Government of Guyana reaffirmed its dedication to creating an enabling environment for digital transformation, emphasizing that the initiative aligns with the country’s broader goals of economic diversification and sustainable growth.

According to Cerebras, the partnership is part of its global “Cerebras for Nations” program, designed to help countries build and expand their sovereign AI infrastructure. The Wales Data Center will serve as the foundation for Guyana’s emerging technology ecosystem, supporting education, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

The collaboration, facilitated by EY, has already drawn interest from international investors in AI, cloud computing, and infrastructure development. It represents a significant step forward in integrating Guyana’s energy resources with its ambitions for digital advancement, economic resilience, and regional competitiveness.
