President Dr. Irfaan Ali on Monday evening announced a $25,000 one-off grant to old age pensioners across Guyana. In an address to the nation, the President said 65,000 persons will benefit from this new measure.

“This $25,000 one-off grant is equal to one additional month of pension to every Guyanese pensioner,” Head of State said.

He said this grant will put $1.6B disposable income in the hands of the elderly.

The President also announced a one-off grant of $25,000 to all public assistance recipients and persons living with disabilities. This grant will benefit about 25,000 persons, and place more than $600 million of additional disposable income in their hands, he said.

In addition, Dr. Ali disclosed that an electricity credit will be paid to the Guyana Power and Light Company for households consuming less than 75 Kilowatt/hours per month. “The credit to each household will be equivalent to one month of their electricity bill,” he noted.

The total relief to Guyanese amounts to $2.6B, according to the President.
