North Ruimveldt Gets $566.9M Secondary School

August 18, 2025
President Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali on Monday commissioned the rebuilt North Ruimveldt Secondary School, marking the return of a vital educational institution that was destroyed by fire in June 2021.
The $566.9 million reconstruction has delivered a modern three-storey facility, measuring 432 feet in length, 30 feet in width, and 42 feet high.
The school now has the capacity to accommodate between 450 and 500 students and features science laboratories, information technology labs, modern classrooms, teacher accommodations, and upgraded sanitary blocks, all within a contemporary structure.
The project was executed by Kares Engineering under the consultancy of Engineer Marcel Gaskin.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Ali underscored the administration’s commitment to providing safe, modern, and well-equipped learning spaces. He said the new school is not only about infrastructure but about “building an ecosystem of positive transformation in the classroom and for the community.”
Minister of Education Priya Manickchand also praised the project, describing the rebuilt institution as a symbol of resilience and continued investment in education. She noted that the upgrades will ensure every child has access to opportunities for growth and achievement.
The commissioning comes as the school prepares to celebrate its 15th anniversary in September. Plans are also underway for the addition of a state-of-the-art sports facility, which will complement academic offerings and provide students with avenues for holistic development.
