The Guyana Fire Service has launched an investigation into an early morning fire that destroyed a building at Lot 36 Hadfield Street, Lodge, Georgetown.

According to the Fire Service, the emergency call was received at 3:33 a.m., with firefighters arriving on the scene just four minutes later, at 3:37 a.m.

Upon arrival, the building was already fully engulfed in flames, while a nearby structure was under threat. Firefighters immediately began suppression efforts and were able to extinguish the blaze before it spread further.

Although the neighbouring building was saved from total destruction, it sustained partial damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
