Man remanded for killing 6-Y-O at Parika

October 6 2026
A 76-year-old man has been remanded to prison after being charged with the murder of six-year-old Zi Feng Cao at Parika, East Bank Essequibo.
Quan Sheng Li, a cook, appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where the indictable murder charge was read to him.
Li was not required to enter a plea and was remanded until November 5, 2026.
The charge stems from the October 1 killing of Zi at his parents’ Chinese restaurant at Parika.
Investigators allege that Li had gone to the business seeking money he claimed was owed to him by the child’s parents.
The situation reportedly escalated after the boy returned home from school, resulting in the child being fatally wounded.
The child reportedly ran to hug and greet the suspect when seconds later he collapsed to the ground and began bleeding from a chop wound to the neck.
Li was arrested shortly after the incident.
During the investigation, Li reportedly led police to an area where a weapon believed to have been used in the attack was discarded. Police subsequently searched the location and recovered the weapon.
