October 15, 2024 – In a significant boost to higher education access in Region Two, Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, officially commissioned the Texila American University Study Center in Suddie on the Essequibo Coast.
The new facility, which aims to provide students with modern learning resources and a conducive study environment, was inaugurated in the presence of the Director of the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), Dr. Jacob Opadeyi.
The study center will serve as a dedicated space for students in the region who are pursuing higher education through the GOAL program.
Minister Manickchand, during her remarks, emphasized the government’s dedication to expanding educational opportunities across the country. “This study center aligns with our mission to ensure every student, regardless of location, has access to the tools and support needed to achieve their educational aspirations,” she said.
Dr. Opadeyi praised the initiative, highlighting how it will strengthen GOAL’s efforts to deliver quality, accessible education to all regions of Guyana.
Since the launch of the GOAL program in 2021, over 2,700 residents from Essequibo have enrolled in degree, master’s, and PhD programs through international universities at no cost. Of these, 220 are currently studying at Texila American University.
The Texila American University Study Center is set to play a vital role in supporting the academic progress of many students, contributing to the overall growth and development of the Essequibo Coast and beyond.
