SOCU confirms its case against Brutus is weak and on life support

October 16, 2024
The Fizal Karimbaksh-led Special Organized Crime Unit admitted in a statement to the press on Wednesday that it has failed to secure advice from the Director of Public Prosecution to institute criminal charges against Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus.
In a poor attempt to rubbish a Stabroek News Article published today under the caption “SOCU PROBE INTO BRUTUS FINDS NO EVIDENCE OF CRIME,” SOCU claims that the article is misleading.
However, the next paragraph of the SOCU statement confirmed that when it sent a file to the DPP for advice earlier in the investigation, no criminal charges were recommended. SOCU then indicated that after it fired blanks with that file, it sent another file to the DPP hoping that she would recommend that SOCU institute dozens of charges against Assistant Commissioner of Police Calvin Brutus.
SOCU stated that after the first file did not go in its favor, the Financial Intelligence Unit provided some information that breathed a little life and hope into the dying investigation of SOCU’s probe into Brutus. SOCU had applied to the court and had the bank accounts of Brutus and his wife frozen as part of their investigations.
