“GECOM Seems to be a Complicit Entity With the PPP to Rig These Elections” – Amanza Walton-Desir

August 21, 2025 – Leader of the Forward Guyana Movement (FGM) and presidential hopeful, Amanza Walton-Desir, has vowed to pursue legal action to the fullest extent following the omission of her party from ballots in three regions.
Addressing alleged remarks made by Vice President Bharat Jagdeo recently, Walton-Desir said “if he [Jagdeo] thinks it’s for attention then we’ve obviously got his attention and on Monday we will have the court’s attention.”
She also raised concerns about the credibility of the electoral process, stating that the matter brings attention to the fact that “GECOM seems to be a complicit entity with the PPP to rig these elections.”
Walton-Desir further asserted, “Jagdeo [is] accustomed to a world where his word is law, but that does not apply to the real world in which we live.
She further stated “What Jagdeo says is not important to me.”
Speaking with the media during her visit to St. Stanislaus College—currently being used as a polling station for Disciplined Services voting—Walton-Desir confirmed that the first court hearing is scheduled for Monday.
She explained that the court has declined a request for a virtual hearing, requiring all parties, including those from the hinterland, to be physically present.
Emphasizing her determination, she added that the case will be pursued to the end and to its logical length, even to the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) if necessary.
The affidavit filed in the case alleges that FGM has been excluded from the ballots in Regions Seven, Eight, and Nine
The application contends that the omissions deprive voters of their constitutional right to choose from all approved national lists, amounting to discrimination and undermining proportional representation in the National Assembly.
Walton-Desir described the situation as a “dangerous oversimplification being pushed by government officials,” stressing that the law must be clarified and that her party has built a strong case based on what she has observed.
