Duo on trial for murdering father of 2 during 2017 robbery

(Murder accused: Selwin Dawson and Kevin Persaud)

 The trial of Selwin Dawson and Kevin Persaud who are jointly charged with the 2016 murder of clothes vendor Purcell Moore, commenced on Monday before Justice Sandil Kissoon and a jury at the High Court in Demerara.

 Upon their arraignment, Dawson and Persaud were formally charged with murder. They both pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on December 20, 2017, in the county of Demerara, they murdered 40-year-old Purcell Moore Jr., during the course or furtherance of a robbery.

 Dawson is being represented by Attorney-at-law Adrian Thompson, while Persaud has retained Attorney-at-law Damien DaSilva. The prosecution is being represented by State Counsel Lisa Cave and State Counsel Mohamed Ali.

 

                                                              Purcell Moore

Moore, a father of two, had just returned from French Guiana when he was shot and robbed of his gold chain and other jewellery by three men. He received two gunshot wounds to the head during the attack which occurred a short distance away from his parents’ Craig, East Bank Demerara home.
